WINDOW LOCKS- FOURWAYS
OVERVIEW
If you're planning to buy a set of window locks for your home then you should first learn how to install them. Although window lock installation is not much different from installing door locks, there are also certain differences that you should know about.
The fact is, window locks are generally smaller than door locks, and they're designed to serve the size, shape and security needs of most windows. So before you go out to the store to buy your window locks, you should first take the time to read the following guide on how to properly install them.
POSITION THE LOCK
Like all other types of locks, installing a window lock starts by putting them in the right position. To do this, you will need to take a ruler and measure the edge of the jamb along with the window winder. Once in place, mark the center with a pencil to identify their proper position. Furthermore, tou will also need to position a spacer over the mark as you place the lock on top. This is because window locks require a little room between them and the windowsill.
MARK YOUR LOCK'S SCREW HOLES
Screw holes tell you where the screws need to go. To do this, you will need to push a nail through each of your lock's screw holes until they make a dent. You will also need to do the same for the spacer. Once you're done, mark those dents with a pencil.
ATTACH THE LOCK
It's now time to attach the lock. First, you will need to wind your window open in order to keep them from obstructing your work. Next, you will need to get an appropriate drill or screwdriver for your screws. Once you have all your tools, start drilling pilot holes into the marks. After this is finished, close your window again and position the lock over the holes. You can then start screwing your lock onto the designated area using your drill or screwdriver.
INSTALL THE BOLT
After you've installed the lock, your next step is to install the bolt. First of all, you will need to make sure your window is tightly closed. After that, insert your lock's bolt into its hole and push it down until it makes a mark on your windowsill. Pull out the bolt after that and wind your window open again. Start drilling a hole into the mark to finish this step. Don't forget to close the window to make sure that the bolt fits snugly into the hole.
ATTACH THE STRIKER PLATE INTO YOUR WINDOW SILL
Finally, you will need to install the striker plate. To do this, start by opening the window and positioning the striker plate onto your window sill. Don't forget to mark the holes with a pencil to properly identify your pilot holes. You can then start screwing the striker plate into the sill using your drill or screwdriver. Once you're done, close your window to see if the lock fits correctly.
